Bagi pelatih asal Belanda itu, kemenangan di laga pembuka musim Premier League itu menjadi awal yang bagus dan memicu kepercayaan diri menjalani kompetisi di sepanjang tahun.
Setelah babak pertama yang berat melawan tim promosi Ipswich, Liverpool tampil gemilang setelah jeda dan menang berkat gol dari Diogo Jota dan Mohamed Salah.
Slot adalah manajer Liverpool kedua di era Premier League yang mencatat kemenangan dalam debutnya di liga, setelah Gerard Houllier pada Agustus 1998.
“Rasa pertama (sepak bola Premier League) di babak pertama mungkin seperti yang diharapkan karena mereka semua berada di atas kami, sangat agresif. Babak kedua sangat menyenangkan untuk ditonton,” kata Slot kepada TNT Sports.

“Saya pikir kami perlu memenangkan bola-bola panjang melalui udara. Itu membantu dan memberi kami kendali. Saya tidak berpikir Ipswich bisa mengimbangi tempo di babak kedua.
“Di babak kedua para pemain sudah siap dan kemudian permainan mulai memanas dan Anda bisa melihat kami bisa bermain sepak bola dengan cukup baik.”
Gol kedua Salah yang dieksekusi dengan baik membuat pemain Mesir itu mencetak sembilan gol di babak pembukaan musim Premier Legaue, lebih banyak dari siapa pun.
