SABANEWSINDO.com – Dunia MotoGP dikejutkan oleh keputusan yang dibuat pembalap asal Prancis, Fabio Quartararo. Ia memutuskan untuk bertahan di Yamaha kendati pencapaiannya sejauh ini belum begitu memuaskan.
Menjelang akhir musim 2023 kemarin, Quartararo ikut meramaikan keluhan terkait motor seperti yang pernah diutarakan Marc Marquez terhadap Repsol Honda. Ia juga mengaku tidak senang dengan performa motor Yamaha.
Bahkan, Quartararo sempat mengancam akan meninggalkan Yamaha jika perubahan tak kunjung terlihat. Dan dari segi pencapaian, belum ada perubahan yang berarti buat pria berumur 24 tahun tersebut.
Pada seri pertama MotoGP 2024 yang digelar di Sirkuit Losail, Qatar, Quartararo hanya mampu finis di peringkat ke-11. Lalu pada seri kedua di Portimao, Portugal, ia menempati peringkat ketujuh.
Yamaha tidak bisa disebut berkembang jika hanya melihat spektrum pencapaian semata. Namun tidak ada yang tahu keadaan di balik layar selain Quartararo dan timnya. Sang pembalap sendiri mengakui perubahan telah terlihat.

Pada bulan Maret 2024 kemarin, Quartararo pernah berkata: “Saya tahu harus membuat keputusan dalam waktu singkat, tapi pada sisi lain anda bisa lihat Yamaha melakukan hal yang tidak pernah terlihat dalam enam tahun, mereka membuat perubahan besar.”
Perkataan itu kemudian menjadi sinyal bahwa Quartararo akan melupakan semua ancamannya dan memutuskan bertahan di Yamaha. Benar saja, sang pembalap mengumumkan bahwa dirinya memperpanjang kontrak hingga tahun 2026.
Berhasil mengubah pikiran Quartararo merupakan sebuah pencapaian apik dari Yamaha. Tentunya, mereka membutuhkan pengorbanan besar untuk mewujudkan itu. Dalam hal ini, pengorbanannya berupa uang.
Laporan Motorsport menyebutkan bahwa Quartararo menerima bayaran yang membuatnya jadi pembalap dengan gaji tertinggi di MotoGP. Diketahui bahwa gaji pokoknya sendiri mencapai angka 12 juta euro per tahun.
Perlu dicatat bahwa nominal tersebut dua kali lipat lebih besar dari yang diterima pembalap tim pabrikan Ducati, Francesco Bagnaia. Padahal, pria berkebangsaan Italia tersebut adalah juara musim lalu.
